Jan, thank you for all the hard work you have done and what a beautiful website. I luckily happened upon it today. I am sorry that we have lost touch. I look forward to reading more about our family. This is something wonderful to pass on to our families. Take care, Karen
Thank you so much. My grandmother was Anna Schmalasee born 1901 and raised in St. Louis, MO. She married James Haynes and had a daughter LaVerne.

Hello Jan,
First off, thank you so much for your research. I am a descendant of Curt von Schmalensee and this was informative and filled in some blanks for me. His daughter Anna von Schmalensee was my great grandmother. We live in St. Louis, Missouri. She was elderly when I as a child, but I have found memories of her as she lived right down the street from me and spent a lot of time over there. I was born in 1981. It says he died in 1979. I think she might have died closer to 1989. I know it was somewhere between 1985-1990. I really think it was in 1989, I will message back to confirm once I find her funeral card at home. Thanks again Jan.
Hi, I am Curt and Marie Schmalensee’s great-great granddaughter (through their daughter Clara Schmalensee, born 1898 in St. Louis-married name Miller). I have all of my great-grandma Clara (we called her Pama)’s old photographs including one of an older FFL, german bible, hymn books, and I believe some letters too. I would love to get some of this info to you for this website. Please feel free to reach out.
Hi Sarah,
Thank you so much for getting in touch. I have sent you an email, including a few photos you might be interested in. I look forward to chatting with you.
Jan
