Evening Prayer

1890 Oak Park

My Evening Prayer.

Dear Lord in Heaven, before you, all-knowing, omnipresent, I recognize and confess my many sins and transgressions, oh, look upon me with mercy and forgive me, the repentant one, my trespasses for the name of your beloved Son, Jesus Christ, our Savior. Amen
Oh Lord, give me the strength to only do good, and give me the fortitude to firmly withstand and eschew evil.
I thank you, oh Lord, for the abundant blessings and great mercy you have shown to me and mine. I thank you most for giving me this dear son who has stood by my side in my old age. On my knees I thank you for this blessing I have received. All the blessings which you have made so abundant to me and mine are shining proof of your grace and mercy; I shall always strive to be worthy of this grace through righteous living.
Oh Lord, be most merciful to me and mine, shield and protect us on whichever paths we may take; bestow upon us good health and give us a long life and should you call upon us to depart this world, then, oh Lord, be but a merciful judge! Bless our work and our undertakings, but spare us from all hardship, all suffering, all sickness, all misfortune and other peril. That is what I implore of you.
Bless us with Your heavenly grace. Bless my good, elderly, dear wife; bless me, bless all my children and their children, but also bless all those who are benevolent to us. Especially bless my dear son Curt. Reward him for his faithfulness to his parents, reward him for the many good things which he has shown me, oh, reward him abundantly, bless his work, reward his diligence so that he may provide for himself and his own. Protect him in all his journeys. Make him resolute to resist and overcome iniquity, but generously bestow upon him the fortitude to always choose the good and noble path. Protect and give him the strength not to give in to sin. That is what I implore of you. Oh! in Your infinite Father’s goodness, hear my heartfelt plea, which I send to you in heaven, hear the supplication of a father who implores you for his beloved child and for all his loved ones. Amen. –
Safeguard the well-being of us all. –
Oh, Heavenly Father, give us our daily bread, and forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us; lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from all evil, for Thine is the kingdom and the power and the glory forever and ever.
Amen.
